01 Synopsis

Tyrone and Clinton are best friends. Both are Deaf, and both are left to fend for themselves on a half-built housing estate in Melbourne’s outer west. Tyrone lives with his mother and her boyfriend, a small-time dealer who despises migrants and gay men. Clinton, a refugee, lives with an older brother whose views are much the same. In Auslan, the language only they share, the boys find sanctuary, and something more. Blending grit with moments of magic, Tarneit is a story of first love in a place built to crush it.
